‘Matrix’ Matatu Driver Charged With Reckless Driving

A Nairobi Traffic Court has charged another driver of a matatu following a viral video showing reckless driving.

Dickson Wambua Masya appeared before Senior Principal Magistrate Eric Wambo, facing five charges, including obstruction, driving in the wrong lane, failure to comply with police orders, operating a Public Service Vehicle (PSV) without a valid road service license, and failing to wear the required PSV uniform.

According to the prosecution, on March 20, 2025, at around 8:00 PM, Wambua was driving a matatu, registration number KDN 429N, branded “Matrix” along Kenneth Matiba Road when he made an illegal U-turn and drove on the wrong side of the road, causing inconvenience to other motorists.

The court heard that when a uniformed police officer ordered him to return to the correct lane, he defied the directive.

Additionally, Wambua was accused of operating the PSV without a valid road service license, a critical requirement for public transport operators. He also failed to wear the designated PSV uniform, which is essential for easy identification of drivers.

He pleaded not guilty to all charges and was released on a cash bail of Ksh 50,000. The court further directed him to report to the traffic base commander once a month as part of his bail conditions.

The driver shared the dock with after another matatu driver linked to George Ruto’s matatu ‘Money Fest’ who was charged with similar traffic offenses, raising concerns about rogue PSV operators in Nairobi.
