A middle aged man has fled after torching a family house in Matungulu, Machakos County.

Confirming the incidence, Matungulu sub-county police commander Peter Omondi said the suspect fled his home at Katheka village after committing the crime on Saturday.

Omondi said there was a conflict between a husband and wife yesterday before the former torched their house when the latter had gone to the market leading to the destruction of the house alongside property of unknown value.

He said there were neither injuries in nor be fatalities in the fire incident as both the woman and her two children were not inside the house when it went up in flames.

The 30-year old woman has since been left in the cold together with her children, after the man of the house committed the wicked act.

Omondi said they were in hot pursuit of the assailant.
He cautioned residents against taking the law into their hands whenever they were in disagreements.

The sub-county police boss insisted those in family disagreements to seek counselling from professional counsellors, clergy or elders. The couple has been married for almost ten years.

They lost all their property of unknown value to the fire. The young woman has since been left in the cold together with her children.

Omondi said they were in hot pursuit of the assailant.

He cautioned residents against taking the law into their hands whenever they were in disagreements.

The police boss said those in family feuds should seek counselling from professional counsellors, clergy or elders.

“Most of the locals can’t accept counsellors, but the clergy are everywhere. Let couples visit the clergy for marriage counselling, village elders can also solve such issues,” Omondi said.

Matungulu MP Stephen Mule visited the woman’s home on Sunday to assess the situation.

Mule condemned the incident terming it inhumane and uncalled for.

“Words can’t express my deep sorrow for the loss and torture this young family of Jackline Mbithe Kimeu and what she has faced after her husband torched their house and all their property in Katheka village destroyed,” Mule said.

The vocal legislature thanked neighbours who rescued the situation and accommodated the young family after being pushed by acts of violence to leave their home.
