The Kenya National Highways Authority has reiterated that all pending projects will be completed effectively
KeNHA Director General Kung’u Ndung’u, while appearing before the Senate Committee on Transport, said the agency would complete the projects once funding will be made available.
The senators particularly called on the road agency to prioritize roads within the ASAL counties and food basket counties.
The Mau Mau roads which was started under the Uhuru Kenyatta regime is a project prioritized for completion, as it will facilitate faster movement of food items from the mount Kenya highlands to markets.
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua stated that the issues that had delayed project completion had been resolved and that contractors would be back on site soon.
The DP stated that he had met with relevant agencies, including the National Environment Management Authority and Kenya Wildlife Services, and that the building of the road would now resume.
A crucial component of the Mau Mau Road, for instance, has been postponed in Tetu because environmentalists raised issues about the likely displacement of species in regions it was to cross through.
KENHA started the construction of the stretch linking the counties of Kiambu, Murang’a, Nyeri and Nyandarua.
