Mbeere : Students Torch New Dormitory

A dormitory that was set to be commissioned by Mbeere South MP Geoffrey King’ang’i has been destroyed by fire.

The St Thomas Aquinas Igumori Secondary School dormitory, which cost the government Ksh 7 million through the Mbeere South CDF, was razed down by a mysterious fire.

Its destruction may now jeopardize the goal of increasing the school’s admission from 300 to 600 students.

The act was denounced by the MP, who described it as a significant loss for the school, government, and education system.

"I have just received information that boys dormitory of St Thomas Aquinas Igumori Secondary School has been set on fire. The dormitory was built by Mbeere South NG-CDF at a cost of Ksh 7 million which I was to commission within the next few days. I want to condemn with the strongest terms possible the burning of the dormitory and school property.

The MP added that the ongoing school fires are a national emergency and measures be put in place to contain such losses.

"We further urge the ministry to come up with deterrent measures to ensure that this action is not repeated elsewhere in other schools. Other School administrations should have meetings to know the moods in our schools to avert similar destruction in other Schools in Mbeere South constituency," the MP wrote on his Facebook account.

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
