Six Members of County Assembly(MCAs) in Kilifi County have assured residents that the Building Bridges Initiative report will sail through at the assembly. – By Ramadhan Kambi.
The MCAs led by the Deputy Leader of Majority said they are prepared to pass the document because of its importance to the region.
Speaking at Bale in Ganze constituency, Shimo la Tewa MCA Sammy Ndago said a majority of MCAs are in support of the document.
“The report is currently in the assembly and we are going to pass it. I have personally read it and I urge you to read it and make a personal decision not based on what you have been told by political leaders,” said MR Ndago.
The deputy leader of majority said a section of political leaders from the county have been spreading lies about the report.
“We have very insincere leaders who claim BBI will increase the number of leaders. If you look at the proposal for the Prime Minister position, it is not an addition but he or she will be picked from sitting MPs. This is not an addition,” said Ndago
Other MCAs who vowed to support the document are Nixon Mramba (Kakuyuni), David Kadenge (Malindi Town), George Baya (Watamu), Jana Tsuma (Ruruma), and Maitha Masha (Jaribuni).
Mramba said the document will soon be made available to anyone in the county.
“We will bring this document to you so that you can make an informed decision. I will personally pass it because it is about 80 per cent good. Do not be hoodwinked by selfish leaders who claim the document is bad for the country. Most of those who are against it have cases in court,” said Mramba
Kadenge urged members of the public to download the document from the internet and read it.
“We are in a digital world and do not buy the idea that the document is not available. You can go online and read it and make an informed choice,” said Kadenge
Kilifi county chief officer for roads and public works Kenneth Kazungu who is also eyeing the Ganze parliamentary seat also urged the MCAs to pass the document.
Mr Kazungu said the BBI will strengthen devolution by allocating more resources to counties.
“I have gone through the document and it is a very good document. I had to go through it because I thought there are bad clauses hidden inside but I was satisfied with what I found. Kindly read it and pass it,” said Kazungu
He said Kilifi will benefit with four more constituencies.
Kilifi county director of budget Wilberforce Mwinga who declared to vie for the Kilifi senate seat said the county stands to benefit if the report is passed.
“Currently we are receiving around Sh10 billion but when this report goes through we will get between Sh25billion-Sh30billion. With this kind of funds we will be able to develop Kilifi County,” said Mwinga
