The Standard Group PLC has issued a warning regarding its exclusive radio broadcast rights for the 2024/2025 English Premier League (EPL) season in Kenya.
In a notice dated Monday, February 2, 2025, the Mombasa Road-based media house announced that it has retained the exclusive radio broadcast rights for the EPL in Kenya.
The company warned that any attempts to transmit these matches on radio without authorization would result in legal action.
“Standard Group PLC is pleased to announce that we retain the exclusive radio broadcast rights for the English Premier League in the territory of Kenya for the 2024/2025 season.
This exclusive license means that no other radio broadcaster is authorized to transmit or broadcast English Premier League matches within Kenya’s territory. Any unauthorized broadcasting or attempts to transmit these matches on radio will constitute a violation of our exclusive rights and will be subject to legal action,” the notice read.
The media house further urged EPL fans to tune in to its stations, namely Radio Maisha, Spice FM, and Berur FM, for the most comprehensive and exclusive coverage of the matches throughout the season.
The exclusive broadcasting rights for the English Premier League (EPL) involve complex licensing agreements that allow broadcasting companies to present EPL matches to fans around the world.
These rights grant a specific broadcasting company the sole authority to show and distribute EPL matches within a designated region or market.
This exclusivity prevents other broadcasters from airing the same matches in that area, thereby maintaining the value of the acquired rights.
