Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has ridiculed U.S. President Donald Trump’s repeated claims that Washington had deployed nuclear submarines near Russian shores.
Speaking on Tuesday, Trump described Medvedev as “a stupid person” and insisted that during his presidency he had “moved a submarine or two” close to Russia.
He previously said in August that he had ordered two nuclear submarines into “appropriate regions” in response to what he called threats from the former Russian leader.
Medvedev, now deputy chairman of Russia’s Security Council, dismissed the assertions with sarcasm. Writing in English on X (formerly Twitter), he referred to Trump’s remarks as a “new episode of the thriller series,” adding that the submarines were “allegedly ‘very well hidden.’”
Quoting a Russian proverb, Medvedev wrote: “It’s hard to find a black cat in a dark room, especially if it’s not there,” mocking the credibility of Trump’s statements.
The exchange is the latest in a series of verbal sparring matches between the two political figures, underscoring tensions that have persisted even outside of official diplomatic channels.
