Mercedes-Benz Recalls 116,000 Vehicles For Fire Risk; Here Are The Affected Models

Over 116,000 Mercedes-Benz are being recalled because of a 48-volt ground connection under the passenger seat may not be secured properly which can cause the ground connection to overheat.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said in its recall acknowledgement that Mercedes-Benz is recalling its vehicles because, “an overheated ground connection can increase the risk of a fire.”

After conducting an investigation into customer complaints of battery related warnings, Mercedes-Benz hypothesized that other mechanic operations may have resulted in the loosening of the 48-volt ground connection. The investigation was concluded on March 15.

A total of 34 Mercedes models of the years 2019 through 2024 have been affected.

They include the GLS450, GLE580, GLS580, GLE450, AMG GLS63, MAYBACH GLS600, AMG GLE53, AMG GLE63 S and the GLE350.

Mercedes said dealers will be notified of the recall on Wednesday, while owners will be notified before May 14, where they will be required to take their car to an authorized dealer to check for the defect and replace the part if necessary.

Last month, Mercedes recalled more than 105,000 GLE and GLS vehicles over a defective transmission. The company also recalled more than 250,000 units worldwide over faulty fuses.
