Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza Nominates Ex-Opponent As County Secretary

Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza has appointed one of her former gubernatorial opponents as county secretary, subject to approval by the County Assembly.

Dr. Kiambi Atheru was chosen by Kawira to fill the seat currently held by Rufus Miriti, who also served in the same capacity during the tenure of former governor Kiraitu Murungi.

Atheru, a religious and development studies expert, dropped out of the governor race to support Governor Mwangaza.

On April 17, he is scheduled to appear before County Assembly (MCA) members for vetting. A team of MCAs led by Speaker Ayub Bundi will vet the governor’s nominee.

Majority Leader Evans Mawira of Mitunguu Ward is also on the team formed two weeks ago to vet the county secretary nominee.
