Meru MCAs Rally Against Governor Mwangaza, Accuse Her Of Pride, Arrogance

Meru MCAs protested outside the House chambers on Tuesday, accusing the county boss Kawira Mwangaza, of arrogance.

The MCAs paused House business, led by Speaker Ayub Bundi, to discuss their relationship with the governor and resolved to confront her.

The ward representatives accuse her of being impolite and refusing to listen to them. They claim they failed to establish a good working relationship with the executive.

“The MCAs have agreed that they are not ready to listen to the governor during the address set for this afternoon,” said Bundi.

The Meru Assembly’s Majority Leader, Evans Mawira, stated that his repeated calls and texts to try to arrange a meeting had gone unanswered.

Mwangaza was supposed to officially open the county assembly today, Wednesday, October 19, but MCAs have pledged to boycott after the governor failed to meet with them on multiple occasions.

On her official Facebook page, she stated that leadership is not for cowards. She insisted that the county assembly will meet as planned.

“Leadership is all about others. Tupatane tomorrow. (Let us meet tomorrow),” Mwangaza said.

She also shared the Meru County Assembly Standing Order No.13 as read together with Standing Order No. 21 (1). “It is notified for the information of MCAs of Meru and the general public that the Opening of the Third County Assembly and address by Kawira Mwangaza, Governor of Meru County, shall be on Wednesday, October 19, 2022, at 2.00 PM at the County Assembly Chamber, County Assembly of Meru Building, Meru,” she said.

On Wednesday, Mwangaza told a local radio station that she will not be intimidated and that she will not sit in the office to listen to the MCAs because she needs to be with the people who voted for her.
