MERU: Three Arrested Over Arson and Looting of Magunas Supermarket in Meru

Police in Meru have arrested three suspects in connection with the shocking arson attack and looting of Magunas Supermarket that occurred on July 7, 2025.

In a swift and well-coordinated operation, law enforcement officers apprehended Ian Mugambi, Abdulatif Murithi, and Teddy Kaimenyi, all of whom were allegedly caught on CCTV cameras ransacking and later setting fire to the popular retail store.

But the supermarket wasn’t their only target. The trio is also accused of breaking into Seven Eleven Lounge and Selelite Supermarket, where they reportedly made off with stolen goods before torching parts of the premises in a chaotic spree that left businesses reeling and locals in shock.

During the arrests, police recovered a dark green motorcycle with registration number KMGN 839F, believed to have been used by the suspects during the criminal acts.

Authorities say the suspects are currently in custody and undergoing processing at the local station, with formal arraignment expected in the coming days.

The arrests come amid growing public pressure on security agencies to crack down on criminal elements taking advantage of recent unrest and demonstrations to loot and destroy private property.

DCI has confirmed that investigations are ongoing and vowed that more suspects will be brought to book.
