The Kenya Meteorological Department has predicted that rains and strong winds will continue in more than 28 counties throughout the country until the end of the week.
Met forecasted heavy rain, possibly resulting in flash floods, in many parts of the country on Tuesday, along with strong winds in some areas.
Those affected include Embu, Nyeri, Kiambu, Nyandarua, Murang’a, Meru, Kirinyaga, Tharaka Nithi, Nairobi, Narok, Nyamira, Kericho, Bomet, Nakuru, Kitui, Machakos, Makueni, Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi, Tana River, Lamu, Mandera, Marsabit, Isiolo, Wajir, and Garissa.
“Heavy rainfall is expected in several parts of Kenya until Friday 21st April 2023. Areas likely to be affected include Central Highlands, Nairobi County, Central and South Rift Valley, Southeastern lowlands, Northeastern Kenya, coastal region, and Lake Basin,” Met stated.
“Strong winds of more than 25knots (12 m/s) are expected over the South Coast and North-western Kenya.”
As a result, the weatherman has advised residents in flood-prone areas to take precautionary measures such as “avoiding driving through or walking in moving water or open fields and not sheltering under trees or near grilled windows to minimize exposure to lightning strikes.”
Consequently, people in South Coast and North-western where winds may blow, have been cautioned against structural damages.
“The strong winds may blow off roofs, uproot trees and cause structural damages. Updates will be provided promptly if there are any changes,” Met stated.
