The Kenya Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rainfall in Nairobi and other regions between Tuesday, September 16, and Monday, September 22, 2025
The other regions include the Lake Victoria Basin, Rift Valley, Western Kenya, the Coast and parts of the Central Highlands.
In its weekly outlook released on Tuesday, the department said most of the country will remain sunny and dry, but several regions should brace for significant rainfall.
Residents in the highlighted areas have been urged to remain alert to possible weather-related disruptions.
The forecast also warns of strong southerly to south-easterly winds exceeding 25 knots (12.86 m/s) across the Coast and Kenya’s territorial waters, as well as in the south-eastern lowlands, north-eastern and north-western Kenya.
These conditions could pose risks for marine activities, transport, and infrastructure.
Temperature variations are also expected across the country.
Daytime highs above 30°C will be experienced in the Coast, North-eastern and North-western regions.
In contrast, night-time lows below 10°C are likely in sections of the Central Highlands, the Central Rift Valley and the Mt Kilimanjaro region.
A review of weather conditions between September 8 and September 14, 2025, shows that parts of the country have already experienced extreme variations.
The highest 24-hour rainfall during the week was 67.3mm recorded at Khalaba Station in Bungoma on September 8.
On the same day, Mandera registered the highest daily maximum temperature at 38.6°C, reflecting the intense heat in the north-eastern region.
The coldest conditions were reported at Nyahururu, which recorded a minimum of 6.1°C on September 8.
The Kenya Meteorological Department said it will continue to monitor conditions closely and provide regular updates.
The department urged Kenyans to stay informed through official channels and to take precautions, particularly in regions expecting heavy rainfall, strong winds and extreme temperatures.
