Kenyan international and Harambee Stars captain Michael Olunga has officially ended his illustrious four-year stint with Al Duhail Sports Club, exiting as the Qatari giants’ all-time top scorer and a fan favorite.
In a heartfelt statement released Thursday, Al Duhail honored Olunga’s contribution, hailing him as a symbol of professionalism, discipline, and excellence. “Thank you, Olunga. You will always remain an inseparable part of the Al Duhail family,” the club stated.
Olunga joined Al Duhail in January 2021 from Japan’s Kashiwa Reysol. Since then, he has made an indelible mark—scoring 135 goals across all competitions, lifting multiple trophies, and cementing his place in Qatari football history.

During his time at the club, Olunga won the Qatar Stars League (2022–2023), Qatar Cup (2021–2022), and the Qatar League Cup and Stars Cup multiple times. He also topped the league scoring charts in two consecutive seasons and became the top scorer in the 2020–2021 AFC Champions League, netting nine goals.
In the just-ended 2024–2025 season, Olunga contributed 12 goals and 2 assists in 19 league appearances, helping Al Duhail to a second-place finish behind rivals Al Sadd.
The 31-year-old striker penned a brief but powerful farewell message on social media: “VENI VIDI VICI. THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING @DuhailSC. LEAVING AS ALL-TIME GOAL SCORER 130 GOALS AND MEMORIES.”
With Al Duhail entering a transition phase following the exit of head coach Christophe Galtier, all eyes now turn to Olunga’s next move. While his destination remains unconfirmed, he has been linked to clubs in South Africa and the English Premier League.
