A village in Migori county has been left in shock after a father reportedly drowned his five-year-old daughter before taking his own life.
In Nyawaitanchira village, Mabera sub-county, Migori, police said 34-year-old Thomas Chacha threw his young daughter into a 40-foot family borehole.
Family members, alerted by the commotion, rushed to rescue the child but found her dead. By the time they turned back, Chacha had hanged himself inside the house.
Authorities said they are yet to establish the motive behind the apparent murder-suicide. Both bodies were taken to a local mortuary for post-mortem examinations as investigations continue.
“This is a deeply troubling incident, and we urge families facing psychological or emotional stress to seek help,” a local officer said.
