A 28-year-old woman is in hospital after her husband chopped off her hand during a domestic dispute in Kombe village, Migori County.
Police said the incident happened in Kombe village, Suna-Rabuor location, Suna East Sub-county on the night of April 6, 2026.
The victim, Velfine Otieno, sustained multiple injuries during the attack and was later rescued by her mother-in-law.
The victim’s mother-in-law, Mary Auma, recounted how she intervened and managed to save her daughter-in-law during the ordeal.
The suspect, identified as 36-year-old Maurice Ochieng, fled the scene after the incident and remains at large.
According to area chief Philip Kisiagro, authorities have launched a manhunt to trace the runaway suspect.
Meanwhile, the area chief has raised concerns over rising cases of drug and alcohol abuse, particularly the consumption of bhang and illicit brews in parts of neighbouring Kuria West Sub-county.
He noted that many incidents of gender-based violence in the region have been linked to substance abuse.
