Residents of Oyani in Migori County are angry lot after the Oyani market that was built 10 years ago is in dilapidated condition due to poor sanitation, lack of lighting, insecurity and poor road networks.
The residents led by Tony Owino said that they want the Migori County Government to hasten the process of making the market better as most of them use the place to conduct their businesses and services.
He said that the market has no clean water despite the area being near the water sources that serve Migori town and other parts of Migori County.
The residents called on Migori County Governor Ochilo Ayacko to come to their rescue as they fear the outbreak of diseases and other related ailments and also want the sanitation and cleanliness of the place to be done properly.
The member of the County Assembly for East Kanyamkago Norman Ogolla said that the insecurity and the state of the market have already reached the concerned departments in the county and wants the tenders awarded to the residents so that they can also be empowered.
He vowed to push for the refurbishment of the market and the dumpsite so that the residents can get the best place to conduct their daily business activities.
