A widow in Rongo Sub County is appealing for help after her home was destroyed in a suspected arson attack two weeks ago. Jocinta Awuor has been left homeless and is struggling to care for her children as investigations into the incident continue.
Speaking to Radio Ramogi, Awuor described the distressing conditions she has endured since the fire razed her house. “I have been forced to move from place to place, seeking shelter at my neighbor’s residence each night,” she said.
With no roof over her head, Awuor spends her days in the open, while her children are accommodated at night by a kind neighbor, Caroline Achieng. Achieng has provided the family with temporary refuge since the tragic incident.
“This situation has been very difficult for me and my children. We lost everything,” Awuor lamented, adding that she has received little assistance so far.
Village elder Andrew Owino confirmed that no arrests have been made, and the identity of the perpetrators remains unknown. He urged local authorities to expedite investigations and called on Migori County leaders to come to Awuor’s aid.
“This woman needs urgent help, shelter, food, and basic supplies. We are also asking our leaders to support her in getting a permanent home,” Owino said.
The incident has sparked concern among residents over rising insecurity in the area. Community members are now urging increased surveillance and quicker justice to prevent similar tragedies.
Authorities have yet to release an official statement on the arson or the progress of the investigation. Meanwhile, Awuor continues to hope for justice, and a safe place to call home again.
