Firebrand lawyer and political activist Dr. Miguna Miguna has come out swinging against former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i, accusing him of gross abuse of power and calling him unfit to seek Kenya’s presidency.
Speaking from Toronto in a scathing interview, Miguna linked Matiang’i directly to his 2018 deportation and years-long exile, claiming the former minister acted unlawfully and with impunity.
“It was Uhuru Kenyatta and Dr. Matiang’i who invaded my house and destroyed it on February 2, 2018,” Miguna said. “I was abducted, tortured, and deported in defiance of court orders. After six days of my brutal torture, Matiang’i went on television to justify it.”
Miguna reminded Kenyans that Matiang’i was found in contempt of court on March 28, 2018, by Justice George Odunga, and further condemned by Justice Chacha Mwita over the deportation saga. “He has never complied with those court orders to this day,” he added.
He blasted President William Ruto’s administration for failing to enforce those judgments.
“The Ruto regime should have prosecuted people like Matiang’i, Kibicho, and Kinoti for disobeying court orders and committing atrocities. Instead, they were shielded.”
Miguna also took issue with Ruto personally, claiming the President broke a promise to resolve his legal claims upon his return to Kenya in 2022.
“Ruto told me he would instruct the former AG Kihara Muturi to settle the matter. That was another lie.”
Turning his focus back to Matiang’i’s political ambitions, Miguna warned the public against supporting someone with what he called “a documented history of subverting the Constitution.”
“Matiang’i exemplified abuse of power in its purest form,” he said. “He oversaw extrajudicial killings, the River Yala massacres, and my own exile while sedated and unconscious. He should not be on a campaign trail—he should be behind bars.”
Miguna’s remarks come just days after Matiang’i unveiled what sources claim is a high-budget presidential campaign, sparking mixed reactions across the political divide.
