So what debt is Mike Mbuvi Sonko paying Azimio and Wiper?
Sonko was on his way back to Shimolatewa. Until Kalonzo pleaded with President Kenyatta to pardon him.
For that, Sonko has to play political ball. Including preserving the Kamba and Mitijenda votes in Kwanza and Mombasa. Where he was born and brought up.
Wiper and Raila have no qualms over who becomes the next Governor of Mombasa or Kwale. But the Presidential ballot must follow the 2013 and 2017 dimensions.
DP Ruto wanted to retain Sonko to “spoil” Raila votes in Ukambani, Nairobi and among the Y Generation.
That possibility is now neutralised.
Sonko was effectively in UDA and DP William Ruto.
Until trouble came calling after he fell out with the system.
During his fight to resist the take over of his Nairobi County government, Sonko called the President names. Until he was arrested by the terror police over crimes that bordered on treason.
The Kamba Community pulls together in time of adversity (mbanga).
And so Kalonzo Musyoka was lobbied by the community to intercede on Sonkos behalf to the President Kenyatta.
Kalonzo silenced Sonko. And his problems thawed. Until the US came calling and banned Sonko from from stepping in the US over graft and other related charges.
Sonko’s problems quadrupled with a ruling by the High Court barring him from discharging his Governor duties.
Sonko has three criminal cases pending in court over abuse of offence.
The dint of the ruling is that Sonko is not eligible for election as Mombasa Governor.
Sonko is a crowd puller per excellence wherever he goes.
