Military Helicopter Crashes at Mogadishu’s Aden Adde Airport

Mogadishu, Somalia – July 2, 2025 – A military helicopter has reportedly crashed within the last hour at Aden Adde International Airport in Mogadishu, specifically inside the heavily fortified Halane Base Camp, which hosts foreign diplomats, military personnel, and international missions including U.S. forces.

According to the Somali Civil Aviation Authority, the aircraft was en route to Baledogle Military Airfield, located north of Mogadishu and jointly operated by the United States Air Force and the African Union Stabilization Support Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM). At least eight individuals, including passengers and crew, were onboard at the time of the crash.

Authorities have not yet confirmed the origin or ownership of the helicopter, and it remains unclear whether any of the casualties are U.S. servicemembers. Emergency responders and security personnel have cordoned off the crash site within the base camp as investigations begin.
