Ministry Of Education Announces Changes In 2023 School Calendar

The Ministry of Education released a revised 2023 calendar for pre-primary, primary, secondary, and college schools on Monday.

Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang issued a circular informing education officials of the new calendar dates, which are an amendment to those announced on November 7, 2022.

The ministry’s calendar specifies that the first term, which began on January 23, will last 13 weeks. Learners will take a three-day break from March 16 to March 19, and the school will close on April 22, 2023.

The 14-week term two will begin on May 8, with a half-term break from June 29 to July 2. The schools will then be closed from August 12 to August 27.

After the two-week break, students will return to school on August 28 for the third term, which is the shortest in the school calendar. There will be no break during this term, which ends on October 27.

Learners who are not taking their national exams will take a break from October 28, 2023 to January 8, 2024.

Candidates in grades six and eight will begin their KPSEA and KCPE exams on October 30 to November 2, 2023.

The KCSE exam will then begin on November 3 and will last until November 24, 2023.

Teachers will begin marking exams on November 27 and will continue until December 15th, 2023, for a three-week session.

For Teachers Training College students who finished their first term last year, the second term will run from January 23 to April 21, and the third term will run from May 8 to August 11.
