A Thai woman gave birth to a healthy baby girl on the streets of Bangkok as buildings shook from the powerful earthquake that struck Myanmar and Thailand.
Kanthong Saenmuangshin, 36, was at Police General Hospital for a routine check-up when the 7.7-magnitude quake hit. As the hospital was evacuated, her water suddenly broke while rushing down five flights of stairs.
“I was telling my baby, don’t come out yet,” she told Reuters on Saturday.
Doctors quickly surrounded her in the street, where she delivered her daughter safely as chaos unfolded around them.
By the time little “Mink” was born, the shaking had stopped. The parents have not yet given her an official name but decided against any name related to the earthquake.
The powerful tremor has claimed over 1,600 lives, with the toll expected to rise as rescue teams search for survivors.
Despite the devastation, Mink’s birth brought a moment of hope in the midst of tragedy.
