Mirithu Girls in Kiambu closed indefinitely after fire razes dormitory

Mirithu Girls Secondary School in Limuru, Kiambu, has been closed indefinitely following a dormitory fire that destroyed property in what is suspected to have been an electrical fault.

The incident affected one of the dormitories, leaving students counting losses after personal belongings and school property were consumed in the blaze.

No additional details have been provided regarding casualties or injuries at the time of reporting.School authorities moved swiftly to ensure the safety of learners, ordering an immediate closure of the institution as investigations into the cause of the fire continue.

Meanwhile, parents and guardians have been advised to stay alert for further communication regarding the resumption of learning.According to George Kinuthia, a neighbour to the school, they rushed to the school after hearing an alarm at around 9 pm.He said efforts to help contain the inferno were futile as the fire had engulfed most sections of the dormitory.

He said the fire extinguisher came on time and helped put out the fire.“We have been told all the students are safe, but we will be informed when the students will come back to school,” Virginia Wanjiku, a parent, said.Eunice Njoki, another parent, called for a speedy investigation into the incident to be able to know that exactly what caused the fire.
