Missing Assistant chief found beheaded by Al-shabaab

Wajir County security has been heightened after herders stumbled upon the head of a missing assistant chief lying in the grazing fields.- By Gerald Gekara.

Omar Aden, the Assistant Chief of Gumarey Sub-Location in Wajir County was kidnapped on Friday by suspected al-Shabaab militants.

According to police sources, the heavily armed members of the Al-Qaeda terror group stormed Gumurey village at 7:30pm, ordered residents to switch off their phones before lecturing them for about an hour.

The raid was however repulsed by Kenya Defence Forces who were patrolling the area at the time of the incident.

A multi-agency security team reported having launched an operation along the Kenya-Somalia border in pursuit of the militants.

Khorof Harar has been the center of persistent terror incidents.

In May, suspected members of Al-Shabaab militants attacked Khorof Kharar police camp and destroyed a Safaricom communication mast.

In April, at least six people, including a Kenya police reservist, were killed by suspected Al-Shabaab militants.

In January, two people suffered wounds after a commuter bus operating between Khorof Harar and Qarsa was sprayed with bullets by suspected Al-Shabaab militants.
