The body of Daniel Mbolu Musyoka, the missing Embakasi East Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) returning officer, has been discovered in Kajiado.
On Monday evening, police officers in Loitoktok, Kajiado South sub-county, were notified of the presence of a middle-aged man’s body in the forest.
According to police, his body was identified at Loitokitok sub-county mortuary by his sisters, Mary Mwikali and Ann Mboya.
“Last night, his two sisters identified the body at the Loitokntok subcounty hospital. We are awaiting word from police headquarters on whether we should transport the body to the city morgue or stay here,” stated Kipruto Ruto, the head of the Loitoktok police force.
Mr Musyoka was the returning officer for the Embakasi East polling station.
According to Kipruto, the middle-aged male body was discovered early in the day by herders in Kilombero forest, at the foot of Mt Kilimanjaro, and dumped into the valley of a dry seasonal river around 4 p.m.
The area is notorious for the dumping of bodies from victims killed elsewhere.
Kipruto stated that the body was naked, but his clothes, which included a track suit and a Maasai Shuka, were found at the valley’s edge. The victim displayed visible signs of struggle and torture.
No identifying documents were retrieved, and scars on his body suggested that he had been tortured by assailants prior to death.
“It was clear that the victim had been murdered elsewhere and his body had been dumped in the valley,”
“He may have died in agony,” Kipruto speculated.
