Police in Naromoru police station, Kieni East sub-county, are investigating a case where a 40-year-old woman was found murdered in Kabaru forest on Sunday evening.

Wamboi Macharia went missing on Saturday morning, May 21, and her lifeless body was discovered deep inside Ngonio forest in the larger Kabaru forest next to the bank of river Sagana within Mt. Kenya Game Park.

The case was reported by the deceased’s brother-in-law, Daniel Muriuki Gitari, 60, by phone on Sunday, May 22.

The deceased was last seen entering the forest on Saturday morning, accompanied by her husband, John Macharia Gitari, 57, who was later found unconscious after consuming a herbicide in an attempt to commit suicide and was rushed to Karatina hospital, where he succumbed due to the effects of the poison.

A suicide note found in the husband’s pocket, written in Kikuyu, stated that he took the poison to die because he had cut his wife due to her prostitution behavior.

This prompted her relatives to start searching for her, and they eventually discovered her lifeless body near the riverbank with multiple deep cuts all over the body inflicted by sharp objects.

Naromoru OCS Evans Momanyi and other officers from the station visited the scene.

According to the police report, traces of blood were found on the river bank (primary scene), as well as her right leg rubber shoe and a piece of her jacket, before he dragged her across the river and about 20 meters into the thicket (secondary scene).

The body was taken to the Karatina hospital mortuary awaitingpostmortem.
