Mob Kills Police Officer For Intercepting Bhang In Migori

A police officer was killed by a mob for intercepting bhang in the Kaler area of Nyatike Sub-County.

At around 9 p.m. on Saturday night, the police officer, who was on night duty with his colleague, intercepted a boda-boda carrying bhang.

According to Migori police commander Mark Wanjala, after being intercepted, the boda-boda rider raised an alarm, attracting a crowd that descended on the officer.

“The boda-boda man had a motorbike which was carrying bhang and they arrested him. One person raised the alarm and the community came to his rescue,” Mr. Wanjala said.

According to Wanjala, the mob assaulted the officer with machetes, cutting him several times on the head before stabbing him.

Attempts by his colleague to scare the crowd with his gun were futile because the crowd remained steadfast.

He was able to escape unharmed.

The officer from Kaler patrol base was rushed to Ombo Mission Hospital in Migori town, where he succumbed to his injuries.

“We have launched our investigations into the matter,” Wanjala said.
