Mombasa Road to Face Temporary Closure for World AIDS Day Half Marathon

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced the closure of key sections of Mombasa Road in Nairobi on Sunday, December 1, 2024, to facilitate the World AIDS Day half marathon.

The closure will impact the stretch between the Nyayo National Stadium Roundabout and the Museum Hill Interchange from 6 am to 10:30 am, affecting motorist access during this time.

KeNHA Director General Kung’u Ndung’u highlighted that the closure is part of the preparations for the 21-kilometer marathon, which is expected to bring significant traffic disruptions to the area. Drivers are advised to use alternative routes to avoid delays and are urged to cooperate with police officers and traffic marshals stationed along the route.

“Motorists are encouraged to follow the proposed traffic management plan and comply with instructions from police and traffic marshals,” the statement emphasized.

The marathon aims to raise awareness for World AIDS Day and is expected to attract significant participation, underscoring the importance of community engagement in health initiatives.

KeNHA is working to ensure that disruptions are minimized and that safety is prioritized during the event.
