The Government will undertake major repair and expansion works at Mombasa Road.
The 6 lane busy highway was last upgraded in 2006.
The scope of works include the construction of 6 over passes at Gateway Mall, Auto Express, Mlolongo and Westlands Primary school.
The over passes will cater for an expanding population in the city and its satellite towns.
Currently, pedestrians are aided to cross the busy highway by traffic Martials, further endangering the lives of the public
Two underpasses, one at Haileselasie Avenue and another at University of Nairobi will be constructed.
The move will radically change the face of Mombasa Road and Uhuru Highway, two of the busiest transport connections in Nairobi
Kenya National Highways Authority(KeNHA), will also construct a Common Duct for under ground cables to ensure road pavement is not periodally opened by IT firms
The mooted works includes construction of a state of the art drainage facillity to cure flooding
The last mega drainage upgrade on Mombasa Road was in 1999. This was after then President Moi spend 6 hours in a jam as rains pounded.
The 27 kilometre Road surface will also be upgraded during the exercise
Modern matatu and bus terminus will be erected along the 27 kilometre road.
