Mbarak Swaleh, alias “Coaches,” was on Monday arraigned before Senior Resident Magistrate David Odhiambo, facing charges of defilement contrary to Section 8(1) as read with Section 8(3) of the Sexual Offences Act No. 3 of 2006. He also faces an alternative charge of committing an indecent act with a child.

According to the prosecution, Swaleh committed the offense on diverse dates between January and August 14, 2025, at the Fort Jesus football field in Mvita Sub-County, Mombasa County.

He allegedly lured the Grade Six pupil into a storeroom under the pretext of retrieving training equipment, where he repeatedly assaulted him.

The court heard that the accused applied a substance he referred to as “power shot oil” on the child, claiming it would enhance his athletic performance, before escalating the abuse.

The truth came out on August 16 when the boy told his mother what had been happening. She later gathered other coaches, and in front of them, the child repeated his story.

The matter was then reported to the police, and doctors confirmed the boy had been abused.

Swaleh pleaded not guilty to both charges. Magistrate Odhiambo granted him a bond of Sh500,000 with a surety of the same amount and directed him to provide two contact persons to ensure his attendance in court.

The case will be mentioned on September 8, 2025.
