Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i has declared Monday 2nd May 2022 a public holiday by dint of Labour Day falling on Sunday.
“In line with the provisions of section 2 and 4 of the Public holiday Acts (CAP 110), it’s hereby confirmed that 2nd May 2022 will be a public holiday, by dint of Labor Day falling on Sunday 1st May 2022,” Matiang’i stated.
The CS also reminded citizens to take advantage of the occasion to celebrate workers’ contributions to the country’s growth.
“Whereas this day is already conferred by law, this press release serves to remind citizens to use the occasion to celebrate our workers’ contributions to the growth and prosperity of our Motherland.” Read the statement.
Every year on May 1st, Kenyan workers are celebrated for their contributions to the growth of the country’s economy through Labour Day celebrations.
This sets the stage for Kenyans to enjoy a long holiday weekend as Friday was also gazetted as a public holiday to accord former President Mwai Kibaki a State Funeral.
In addition, the government has declared Tuesday a public holiday to commemorate the end of the holy month of Ramadhan.
This means that the long weekend will begin on Friday 29 to May 3.
