A security guard described how his stolen identity card almost got him arrested for the murder of businesswoman Monica Kimani.
Dominic Hosea told Justice Grace Nzioka that his ID was stolen at Royal Park Estate in Lang’ata, Nairobi, where Joseph Irungu alias Jowie and journalist Jacqueline Maribe lived.
The ID went missing under mysterious circumstances after being surrendered to a Royal Park Estate guard.
Hosea told the court that in September 2018, he was on annual leave for 25 days and needed money to transport his family to their rural home in Kisii.
He then asked a neighbour who worked on construction sites to help him find a side hustle, and the neighbor informed him of construction work at Royal Park Estate.
He explained that he couldn’t find his identity card after work and had to travel home.
“He told me he was not the one on duty in the morning and asked me to come the next day. The next day, September 18, we returned to Lang’ata and found the same guard.
“I said that I did not get my ID. I informed him of my name and the ID number. He said they could not trace it but they would look for it,” Hosea told the court.
Hosea stated that he traveled to Kisii and returned to Nairobi on October 4, 2018, and that the following day, he was summoned by his supervisor while at work.
Hosea claimed he was taken to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations headquarters on Kiambu Road, where he was informed that his identity card had been discovered at a murder scene.
“I was taken to the office and they asked for my identity and details. I explained to them what happened and that my ID got lost at Royal Park Lang’ata. I told them the security guard had assured me they would find it.
“One officer told me that my ID was found at the house of a lady called Monica, who had been killed. They asked me if I knew Monica, and I said no. They told me my ID was under investigation and they would return it to me later,” he narrated.
