Monica Kimani’s Last Moments Alive

According to the Chief Inspector Maxwell Otieno, Joseph Irungu alias Jowie appeared disturbed when he returned from Monica Kimani’s house on the night she was murdered.

Chief Inspector Maxwell Otieno testified in court that Jowie’s friend, GSU officer Jennings Orlando, told them he saw him when he returned from Monica’s house that night.

Otieno told Justice Grace Nzioka that when he interrogated Orlando, he confessed to being at Road House Grill with Jowie and three other friends on that day.

He later drove away with Jowie in Jacque Maribe’s car and dropped him off on Lenana Road, where he is believed to have taken a cab to Lamuria Gardens.

Orlando, who was driving Jowie, stated that at some point in the car, he (Jowie) reached for a gun that was near the dashboard. In that vehicle, he transformed into a Kanzu.

Otieno also told the court that Orlando claimed he waited for Jowie at a gas station and that when he returned, he appeared disturbed.

When asked what was wrong, Jowie allegedly told him he had a disagreement with a lady friend he had gone to see, whom police believe was Monica.

Orlando stated that they left the area via Mbagathi Road. They refueled Maribe’s car at a gas station along the road, and he was later dropped off by Jowie, after which they parted ways.

Otieno testified in court that Monica returned from South Sudan on September 19 and was picked up by a cab from the airport around 7 p.m.

A cab is said to have dropped Jowie off at Lamuria Gardens a few hours later, around 8.30pm.

The security guard on duty that night, according to Otieno, told them that the man, whom police believe was Jowie, went to the gate and produced an ID bearing the name Dominic.

The ID used to enter Monica’s house was later discovered to have been stolen from a casual worker at Royal Park Estate, where Jowie stayed with Maribe.

The guard told police that the man who broke into Monica’s house told him he didn’t have a phone, so they called Monica, who told them to let the man in.

“We determined that Jowie used a forged ID to enter Lamuria.” “The guard described him as a brown man with a styled beard,” Otieno said.

Otieno also told Justice Nzioka that after Jowie shot himself the night after the murder, he didn’t call the cops until the next day, when he went to claim he had been shot by thugs.

The inspector also informed the court that Maribe made two statements about the alleged shooting of Jowie Irungu. In one of the statements, she claims he was shot by thugs, while in the other, she claims Jowie shot himself.
