As Jowie Irungu counts his very last days on earth, or so it seems, questions still linger about who exactly killed Monica Kimani.
The late businesswoman was discovered inside her flooded bathtub, her neck slit and hands tied, with candles lighting the blood bath.
Jowie was found guilty of the gruesome murder by virtue of being the last person who saw Monica Kimani alive.
Chief Inspector Maxwell Otieno said all witnesses interviewed pointed a finger at Jowie as the man who stole an identity card to access Ms. Kimani’s house and was the last person to have seen Monica alive before her mutilated body was discovered.
However, some of the DNA samples taken from the crime scene e.g from the straps, and blood on the infamous khaki shorts pointed to unidentified individuals.
Then there is the Dubai-based South Sudanese boyfriend Yasir Mohammed, who the family says never showed up for the burial of her soon-to-be wife Monica Kimani.
She also stated that Monica’s Kimani’s Sudanese boyfriend was not in Kenya at that time.
“There is evidence that the deceased was supposed to travel the following day to go to Dubai to meet the Sudanese boyfriend and business and holiday,” she went on to say.
According to her family, Monica Kimani was scheduled to travel to Dubai to meet her fiance. She never made it.
Jowie Irungu was implicated and subsequently sentenced to death, with the Judge Grace Nzioka stating that the murder had all ingredients of a murder, complete with a plan and execution.
However, with the case now headed for appeal, will the Judges turn its eyes to the glaring gaps in the awful murder that shook Kenya.
