Security efforts in the troubled Kerio Valley region received a major boost on Sunday, September 21, 2025, after seven AK-47 rifles were voluntarily surrendered to police in Tot.

According to authorities, the firearms were handed over to the sub-county security team with the help of local peace committees from Murukutwa, Chechan, Chemwonyo, and Talai locations. The rifles have since been secured at Tot Police Station for further processing.

Police lauded the gesture as a significant milestone in ongoing efforts to curb banditry and promote peaceful coexistence in the region. “This positive step reflects the growing commitment by local communities to embrace peace and contribute to the voluntary disarmament exercise,” the National Police Service said in a statement.

Security officials also urged residents to continue sharing information and surrendering illegal weapons, noting that such cooperation is crucial in ending decades of armed conflict and restoring normalcy in Kerio Valley.
