Heavy rains causing flash floods and landslides will continue for the next five days, Meteorological department warns. – By Gerald Gekara.
More than 30mm of rainfall which is being experienced over several parts of the country is expected to continue over the Western, Central region including Nairobi Area, Northeastern, Northwestern and Coastal regions of Kenya.
In the western and central regions including Nairobi Area, the rainfall intensity will progressively increase to 40mm in 24 hours between Thursday 23rd and Friday 24th
According to the Kenya Red Cross, residents have been moved to safer grounds as heavy rains continue to pound both areas. Four people are still missing in Chesogon, West Pokot County, since Saturday evening when heavy rains pounded the region, leading to mudslides.
Regions which are likely to be affected by floods and landslides are Murang’a, Taita Taveta, Elgeyo Marakwet, West Pokot, and Kisumu counties.
Residents in all the mentioned areas are advised to be on the lookout for potential floods. Kenya and other hilly areas over the western region should be vigilant.
