Authorities in Mombasa are making significant strides in dismantling the infamous Panga Boys gang, a machete-wielding group that has instilled fear among residents.
In a well-coordinated operation, police officers from Mjambere Police Station in Kisauni Sub-County arrested 14 additional suspects linked to the gang.
The suspects, aged between 18 and 25, were apprehended in their hideout in the Junda Kasarani Ndogo area, thanks to vital intelligence provided by vigilant members of the public.
The arrested individuals include Clinton Nyaga (25), David Nyaga (25), Rashid Lugwe (25), Juma Safari (20), Benjamin Dickson (24), Ayub Koech (18), Hamisi Dzombo (25), Brian Dickson (18), Fadhili Hamisi (18), Juma Nyale (25), Saidi Hamisi (23), Ali Swale (19), Ali Yusuf (19), and Rajab Bakari (18).
Crackdown After Attack
The operation follows reports of an attack on two individuals heading to Kongowea Market. Acting swiftly, police foot patrol officers tracked down suspects in the Kadongo area. Among them were Ali Yusuf (24), Said Hamisi (23), and two 19-year-olds, Ali Swalleh and Siajabu Bakari.
When ordered to surrender, the suspects resisted, violently attacking the officers. In response, the police returned fire, injuring one of the suspects, Ali Yusuf, in the left foot. He was subsequently arrested and escorted to the Coast Teaching and Referral Hospital for treatment, while the other suspects were taken to Mjambere Police Station for processing.
This latest wave of arrests is part of a larger effort to restore security and eliminate criminal activities linked to the gang in the region. The 14 suspects remain in custody at Mjambere Police Station, pending arraignment in court.
The police commended the public for their cooperation in providing critical intelligence that led to the arrests. Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to local authorities as the crackdown on the gang continues.
