More than Half of Kenyans living on Food Donations, Infotrak reveals

A survey held by Infotrak has revealed that nearly half of the country’s population is depending on food donations as a result of the economic effects caused by the COVID-19 pandemic – By Gerald Gekara

The study that comprised of 1200 representatives from 47 counties shows that majority of Kenyans have been burdened by financial pressures brought about by the outbreak.

The rent crisis that faces most urban Kenyans is real with 63 percent of Kenyans saying they are unable to pay their rent on time while 60 percent say they are unable to pay their rent in full.

79% say they can no longer remit money to dependents back home while 75% unable to pay formal and informal loans.

72 percent of respondents said that the recent reduction of VAT from 16 percent to 14 percent by President Uhuru Kenyatta has not been felt by Kenyans.

87 percent of respondents attested that the cost of food had shot up, while 68 percent indicated that they were unable to buy gas, electricity, or even charcoal for cooking.
