Moses Kuria, the Cabinet Secretary for Investments, Trade, and Industry, gave a presentation on the creation of the 47 County Aggregation and Industrial Parks.
According to the CS, the creation of the 47 County Aggregation and Industrial Parks will guarantee the aggregation of agricultural goods and their direct sale to markets inside and outside of the nation through a network of global logistical firms.
Kuria stated that the ministry will establish agro-processing and value-added cottage industries in the counties, which will promote regional economic development and make farming profitable as a means of employment creation.
“We are piloting in three identified counties which we want to increase to ten in the Immediate phase and roll out in the next FY,” said Kuria.
He added, “With the Ksh 4.7billion commitment by the Government of Kenya and expected contribution by the Counties towards the programme, the ministry is in high gear to mobilise support from other development partners.”
Dr. Juma Mukhwana, director of KIRDI, Dr. Eng. Calvin Onyango, CS K Kuria, head of the ministerial delivery unit, Dr. Peter Mbae, head of special projects, Ms. Jeddidah Thotho, partner Ahmed Farah, and chairman of Twiga Foods, Mr. Peter Njonjo, all participated in the presentation to the Council of Governors Summit.
