A new video has emerged of Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria walking independently for the first time in 137 days following a 2021 accident that left him immobile with third-degree burns on his feet.
In the video seen by Citizen Digital, the Gatundu South MP can be seen gleefully walking along a Dubai neighbourhood, in the United Arab Emirates, alongside friends and family.
The legislator was injured in September 2021 after an electric mat he was using to ease numbness in his feet malfunctioned, burning his limbs in the process.
After considering all options, including amputating his feet, Kuria’s medical team advised him to undergo an unprecedented stem cell surgery in Dubai’s American Hospital.
“Thank you very much American Hospital and to Science. I am very proud to be part of this pioneering cutting edge technology and it is my prayer that this will work for many other patients who have given up on other forms of treatment,” the legislator said.
Kuria has so far undergone 10 surgeries to fix the third-degree burns he suffered during the said incident.
In a January post on his Facebook page, the lawmaker cited that the decision to seek specialized treatment in Dubai was not an easy one especially since the stem cell procedure had not been successfully carried out before.
“It was a difficult decision. There were no cases to compare with either in UAE or in Kenya. After consulting with my family, I finally took a leap of faith and agreed to the surgery,” he said then.
“Thanks to God Almighty and my wonderful team at the American Hospital, I can now walk again.”
