Rick Karsdorp, an AS Roma defender, has indicated that his agency plans to ask the team and head coach Jose Mourinho for clarification on recent comments.
Mourinho criticized one player during their discouraging draw against Sassuolo, sparking a sense of unease within the capital club.
“I’m surprised by Mourinho’s words, I want an explanation. We’re also surprised by the fact that everyone’s been pointing fingers at Rick despite neither Mourinho nor Roma uttering his name. We want an explanation from the club about the coach’s words and the way he did it,” as quoted by Roma Press.
Roma looked to be on course for victory after Tammy Abraham scored his first Serie A goal since September with a brilliant header in the 80th minute.
However, it was Sassuolo who had the last laugh as Andrea Pinamonti scored five minutes later from a swift counterattack for the game to end in a 1-1 draw. Mourinho, who is no stranger to controversy was at it again after the draw against the struggling Sassuolo.
The former Chelsea boss brutally criticized an unnamed player, saying his efforts betrayed the whole team. The unnamed player is believed to have been Karsdorp.
The Dutch international started the game on the bench and was introduced in the 65th minute for Zeki Celik.
