MP Babu Owino offers support after fire destroys several houses in Mradi area

Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has offered financial assistance to 101 residents whose houses were destroyed by fire in the Mradi area.

In a statement on Thursday, November 6, Babu sympathized with the affected families, noting that the inferno caused immense losses.

The ODM MP assured the victims of his continued support as they work to rebuild their homes.

“I have provided financial support to 101 Embakasi East residents whose houses were razed down by fire in the Mradi area. We were deeply saddened by the loss they suffered due to the recent fire.

“No words can fully ease the pain of seeing cherished homes and belongings destroyed, but please know that you are not alone,” said Babu.

Fire erupted in the Mradi area of Embakasi on the morning of Monday, November 3. The inferno left several houses burnt to the ground and property of unknown value destroyed.

The authorities are yet to establish the cause of the Mradi fire.

Embakasi East has grappled with a series of fire incidents in recent months. On March 1, 2025, several people were injured and property worth millions of shillings was destroyed after a fire razed multiple houses in Tassia, Embakasi.

Firefighters were deployed to the scene and managed to contain the inferno, although the fire had already destroyed a significant amount of property.

The injured were rushed to Mama Lucy Hospital in Nairobi for medical attention.

In February 2024, a gas explosion in the Mradi area of Embakasi left six people dead and more than 270 others seriously injured.

The gas explosion occurred when a truck carrying gas ignited, triggering a massive fire that rapidly spread to the surrounding areas. Vehicles that were parked near the site of the explosion, and several businesses were also destroyed in the huge inferno.

Following the incident, President William Ruto ordered the arrest and prosecution of government officials implicated in the matter.
