MP Elects Set For Orientation

    The National Assembly has kicked off preparations for the orientation of the newly elected Members in just concluded August 2022 elections to the 13th Parliament.

    The exercise is set to commence from Thursday 26th August from 9:00 am to Friday 26th August, 2022.

    This comes ahead of the first sitting of the House upon the notification of the date of the first sitting of the 13th Parliament by the President-elect.

    “Ahead of the first Sitting of the House, the National Assembly has organized orientation sessions for all Members-Elect. In this regard, the Clerk of the National Assembly invites all Members to attend orientation sessions to be held in Parliament Buildings,” said Serah Kioko, AG. Clerk of The National Assembly.

    Speaking to staff, Serah Kioko noted that a good number of the elected Members will be serving their first term hence the need to prepare adequately for their orientation and induction into the House operations.

    At least 125 MPs failed to recapture their seats while others unsuccessfully contested other political seats at the polls.

    The sessions shall include registration of the Members, collection of bio-data information, issuance of parliamentary identification cards, briefing on the use of the Chamber voting system, tour of Parliament Buildings and briefings by the Office of the Clerk on essential legislative matters, among others things.

    The Members-Elect will also be briefed on, among other things, the services and facilities available to the Members.The Members-Elect will also be facilitated to register for various services and facilities available including medical insurance and other related services, facilities and benefits.

    “To this end, all Members-Elect including Members who have been re-elected are encouraged to attend the orientation sessions,” said Serah Kioko.
