Outspoken Emurua Dikirr lawmaker Johanna Ng’eno has been toppled from a lucrative House departmental committee leadership slot over corruption allegations.
Ng’eno, who chaired the National Assembly Committee on Housing and Urban Planning until his ouster, came under siege after he was labeled incompetent and corrupt.
The lawmaker re-elected on a UDA ticket was toppled despite the ruling party’s numerical strength in the committee.
He was accused of extorting contractors bidding to construct homes under President William Ruto’s Affordable Housing project.
Twelve out of fifteen members of the committee backed Ng’eno’s removal.
Members who commented on the matter accused the besieged lawmaker of sidelining then in key matters even as they termed his continued leadership untenable warning that it would be detrimental to President Ruto’s agenda.
Members met House Speaker Moses Wetangula on Tuesday to discuss the matter.
The Emurua Dikirr MP, a key ally of President Ruto and who was instrumental in pushing the passage of the Affordable Housing Act, becomes the first chair of a committee to be ejected from his position in the 13th Parliament.
