Homa Bay Town member of parliament (MP) Peter Kaluma on Monday June 24, 2024, declared he will subject his children to a DNA test if they fail to take part in anti-Finance Bill protests this week.
Kaluma emphasized that his children should join other young Kenyans in the fight against over-taxation and corruption in the Kenya Kwanza government.
In a statement posted on his X account, Kaluma insisted that the young generation must unite in order to succeed where the older generation failed.
“Any child of mine who will not go to the streets with other children of Kenya this Tuesday to protest over-taxation and corruption in government will face a DNA test! The children of Kenya must walk together to succeed where we failed,” Kaluma noted.
His remarks emerged at a time when most Kenyans were mobilizing themselves on social media platforms to take part in ‘Reject Finance Bill’ protests on Tuesday June 25, 2024, in Nairobi and other parts of the country.
According to the organizers, the protests are expected to continue this week, with a climax being on Thursday June 27.
Meanwhile, the anti-Finance Bill protests being organized by the Kenyan young generation, Gen-Z, started last week Tuesday in Nairobi, as the same protests occurred in Mombasa on Wednesday.
However, on Thursday, youth from different parts of the country including Eldoret, Nyeri, Kisii, Kisumu, Kilifi, Nanyuki and other towns joined the protests to reject the proposed taxes in the Finance Bill.
Despite the protests, 204 Members of Parliament voted in favour of the Finance Bill, while 115 others opposed it.
