Githunguri Member of Parliament Gathoni Wamuchomba has accused a former politician from her constituency of hiring armed goons to disrupt a key infrastructure event in the area on Sunday.
The MP alleged that the assailants were transported from an informal settlement in Nairobi to interfere with the commissioning of the tarmacking of the Kiagi-Gitombo-Gituamba link road.
Wamuchomba claimed the disruption was supervised by Hon Gabriel Kago, the former Mp for Githunguri and an active serving member of NGCDF Board Headquarters, whom she accused of being present with machete-wielding youths.
“The disruption was supervised by a former politician who was present with machete-wielding goons who were repulsed by locals and the police. Sadly, the politician is a serving public servant who is enjoying protection from some quarters and had the audacity to physically escort the goons,” she said in a statement on Facebook.
She further alleged that her rival had recently threatened her staff and that despite filing a formal complaint, no action had been taken.
The vocal MP appealed to law enforcement to investigate the incident, warning that such acts of violence undermine development efforts in the constituency.
“I appeal to the POLICE to investigate this politician and the associated violence being planned on me as I serve my people. Impunity must come to an end and anarchy is unacceptable,” she said.
The incident comes amid Wamuchomba’s growing alignment with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s camp, following months of mixed political signals.
Last week, she held talks with Gachagua at the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP)offices in Nairobi and later joined him on a tour of Githunguri and other parts of Kiambu County.
During a rally in Banana town, Wamuchomba openly rallied supporters against President William Ruto’s re-election bid in 2027, declaring: “For those who said I had left this camp, now they can see—I’m here calling for one term!”The event marked her first public appearance with Gachagua in six months, following earlier criticism of his leadership style.
Authorities are yet to respond to Wamuchomba’s allegations.
Meanwhile, tensions in Githunguri remain high as political rivalries intensify ahead of the 2027 elections.
