MPESA To Be Unavailable For Four Hours Tonight

Safaricom has announced that its widely-used mobile money platform, M-Pesa, will be temporarily unavailable on 11 September, Tuesday night due to scheduled system maintenance.

The maintenance is set to take place from 11 p.m. until 3:30 a.m. on Wednesday, potentially impacting millions of users who rely on the service for various financial transactions.

In a notice shared across its social media platforms, Safaricom reassured users that the maintenance is essential for enhancing the overall M-Pesa experience.

“To enable us to continue to give you the best M-PESA experience, we have scheduled a system maintenance on Tuesday, 10th September 2024, from 11:00 PM to Wednesday, 11th September 3:30 AM,” the company stated.

During the maintenance window, critical M-Pesa services, including bill payments, money transfers, cash withdrawals, and airtime purchases, will be unavailable.

This announcement comes as a reminder to users, many of whom depend on M-Pesa for their daily financial needs, to plan their transactions accordingly.

However, Safaricom confirmed that all other services, including calls, data, and SMS, will continue to operate without interruption.

Since its inception in 2007, M-Pesa has evolved into a cornerstone of the Kenyan economy, facilitating millions of transactions daily.

The service has become Safaricom’s largest revenue stream, contributing a staggering 42.4 percent of the company’s total revenue for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2024, amounting to Ksh.140 billion.
