The Ministry of Health has confirmed a new mpox case in Nakuru County, bringing the national tally to 18.Â
Health Cabinet Secretary Deborah Barasa announced the update on Wednesday, noting that the cases are distributed across 11 counties, with Nakuru leading at four cases.
Nairobi, Mombasa, Kajiado, and Bungoma have two cases each, while Taita Taveta, Busia, Makueni, Kericho, Uasin Gishu, and Kilifi each report one case.
Of the confirmed cases, 14 individuals have fully recovered, while four remain under medical care.
The ministry has traced 115 contacts, 80 of whom have completed a 21-day observation period. Three contacts have tested positive, and 32 are under evaluation.
Since the outbreak, nearly 1.9 million travelers have been screened at various Points of Entry, including 14,311 in the past 24 hours.
The National Public Health Laboratory has tested 296 samples, yielding 18 positive results.
The Ministry advises Kenyans to stay vigilant by practicing good hygiene, avoiding close contact with infected individuals, and adhering to health guidelines.
Rapid response teams have been deployed to high-risk areas along the Northern Corridor to enhance surveillance as the government, in collaboration with WHO, implements a preparedness and response plan.
