” A sitting of either House may be held at any place within Kenya and may commence at any time that the House appoints. Whenever a new House is elected, the president, by notice in the Gazette, shall appoint the place and date for the first sitting of the new House, which shall be not more than thirty days after election,” reads article 126.
This is also backed by standing order 26 of the National Assembly.
This therefore means that the MPs maybe sworn late august or early September.
Upon convening the first sitting, the clerks in both houses of parliament are mandated to read the list of elected legislators before administering the oaths as provided for in the Constitution.
Subsequently, the new MPs embark on the process of selecting the Speakers before conducting any other business.
